You'll carry ductwork, hold things in place, and learn that attics in July are nature's way of testing your commitment to a career. The senior tech will hand you the heaviest thing on the truck and tell you where to put it. You'll get the EPA 608 cert early because it's required, but the real education is watching someone diagnose a system by sound alone.

What you'll actually do

• 01Carry ductwork, copper tubing, and condensers that weigh more than your future
• 02Hold things in place while the tech brazes, screws, or connects
• 03Crawl into attics that haven't seen a human since the Clinton administration
• 04Clean up job sites and load/unload the truck every morning and evening
• 05Study for your EPA 608 certification because you can't touch refrigerant without it
